“The only thing more important than love in a relationship is trust. Trust is the soil love grows in. If there’s not trust, there’s no relationship. When my friends lied, our trust died. As much as I wanted to forgive them, and feel like I did and have, interacting with them was no longer the same. I doubted much of what they said. Sadly, I think both of them began to tell more and more of the truth. But it didn’t matter. Once trust is broken, it’s extremely hard to rebuild.” — http://donmilleris.com/2012/04/05/the-devastating-power-of-lies-in-a-relationship/

#wearTWLOHA

Today’s a very special day. It marks the 6th anniversary of the first TWLOHA shirt being worn by Jon Foreman of Switchfoot…or Gord Marriage a youth pastor from Florida, depending on what story you’ve been told.

I found out about TWLOHA not long after in late 2006…through myspace(remember myspace?!)

Immediately I connected to the movement. I found myself compelled to get a shirt and start wearing it with pride in an effort to start conversations about something bigger.

About Hope,

Pain,

Healing,

Love.

I’ve had the pleasure of hanging out with Jamie in Ottawa in 2009 and help sell the shirts for the event held at Algonquin that cold February night.

Not a week goes by where I don’t wear a shirt, and its amazing the conversations its started over the years and my travels. Gas station attendants in Louisiana, Baristas in Vancouver, Servers in Santiago, or Pro Golfers in Saskatoon. My shirts have been around the world and have spread the message of hope and community to all who ask.

I wear my shirts for that very reason, to start conversations. But the shirts mean so much more. I wear them to know I’m not alone. To remind myself that my story matters and to not give up on it. In the midst of my darkest hours and attempts to end my life, I’ve been lead to wear my TWLOHA shirt the very next day as a reminder that I’m still alive and that there’s a community of people out there that know my pain and are on my side, much like I’m on theirs.

They are more than T-shirts. They are a bond between thousands of people struggling with, overcome or affected by suicide/depression/and self-injury.

So today March 30th marks the day we acknowledge that WEAReTWLOHA.

Andrew Runs...: The Honeymoon -

andrewruns:

Yesterday I knocked off the longest distance I’ve ever ran! My run was 5.5k with a 1k cool down. So the 6.5k is longer than anything I’ve ever done before. It felt pretty great to accomplish this, especially given that around the 5k mark I was starting to lose my focus and was tempted to pack it…

I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.

All the memories that you live in,

Just another door that I’m closing

In hall that’s infinite,

Better least I can admit it.

“With any road to treatment, intentionality is key. It takes wanting to get better. It takes knowing you deserve better. And it takes knowing that others believe in a better life for you. Before you walk out of the door today, think of little ways you can help others throughout the week and see if you notice even the slightest difference in how you feel. Our hope is that you do. And if you don’t, know that you’re not alone in that and there are many others that will try again tomorrow.” — @twloha
